Two-hundred what?
Yikes, yikes, and double yikes. I just sent off actual dollars to sign up for this ride. It's 200 miles, and it's hot. Unless it's cold. Unless it rains too. And it's a flippin' long way to ride in one single friggin' day. What am I doing here? If there are no posts after May 17 you'll be able to guess why.

I'll be there with you on both (DD and STP). Davis Double will be my first double too. I look forward to meeting you and sharing the suffering.

P.S. It's not going to be the end of your life just a day closer to it... Cheers!
Just think in sections... one rest stop to the next. Even if you panic cause you feel like your bonking give it another ten miles and you'll forget about it. Conversing helps alot. Conversing with hot females really helps alot.
ReplyDeleteTandem drafting is a must.

There are so many rest stops on the Davis Double too! I think I skipped three of them.
ReplyDeleteDon't ride too hard, leave something in the tank.
Start doing some hard centuries on the weekends; some with 7,000 - 8,000 feet of climbing. Cobb Mt. is a tough climb with some sections above 11%.
You need to get in some long rides to figure out your nutrition needs. What I eat on the first hundred miles, is not what I eat on the second hundred. :-)
Remember all you want to do is finish. It does not matter whether you finish first, last or somewhere in between. Do what you need to do to finish the ride. Don't hammer like you're doing a 40 miler. That's another reason you need those longer, harder rides, to see what is a good pace for 200 miles for you. There is no shame in being last. I know - I have the next to the last time on Mt Tam for 2006. But I finished. :-)
Things will probably hurt. Usually the hurt will go away. If something hurts in a bad way, it is okay to quit. It is not okay if you are just tired, bored or worried about taking too long.
Good Luck!
Veronica
Hey Curtis, Thanks for the link to sign up. Let's get some rides in before the big one.
